Development Intern (Part-Time, Non-Exempt)

Supervisor: Prospect Research & Analytics Manager

This part-time, summer internship assists the Development team on a variety of initiatives related to raising the vital financial support that advances the PKD Foundation's mission. The Development team secures financial support through personalized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies throughout the year. The intern will be a contributor to numerous fundraising and donor relations projects, and help manage relationship activities and strategies which are meaningful to donors, and aligned with the Foundation's development plan.

Duties are as follows:

  • Support the existing donor relations initiatives
  • Participate in the creation of new donor cultivation activities
  • Initiate phone calls, letters and emails to donors with the primary goal of expressing appreciation for their support, and to further connect them to the mission
  • Help with prospect research
  • Utilize Raiser's Edge donor software to document communication with donors and update their records
  • Help with mailings as needed
  • Perform other support functions as needed

Qualifications are as follows:

Education/Experience
This internship is designed for current undergraduate students at the junior or senior level who are pursuing a career in the nonprofit sector. The purpose of the internship is to help students further cultivate their skills through experience at a national nonprofit. The development intern must have a positive attitude and eagerness to learn about fundraising and donor relations strategies. Knowledge of the nonprofit sector and fundraising, either through coursework or professional experience is a must; volunteer experience preferred. 

Ability/Skills
The development intern must possess excellent communication skills with the ability to confidently and clearly communicate information verbally and in writing. Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and Internet research tools is a must. Customer service experience and experience with donor databases is preferred. 

Knowledge/Judgment
The development intern should have strong attention to detail, a sense of professionalism and excellent customer service skills. The ability to follow directions and ask questions while managing multiple projects simultaneously is also important. The intern should show a willingness to assist where help is most needed, be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and work with minimum supervision.

Marketing Intern (Part-Time, Non-Exempt)

Supervisor: Marketing Manager

Start Date: May 18, 2015

The PKD Foundation is currently seeking a summer marketing intern. The marketing intern will assist the marketing team with writing and editing news releases, website, e-newsletter and magazine copy. The intern will also assist with the PR clipping service, social media, website updates, design projects, email marketing campaigns and media contact lists.

The ideal candidate should be a rising college junior or senior majoring in journalism, marketing, communications, government relations or a related field. He or she must be an energetic and creative team player with strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with PC Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, are required. Design experience is a strong plus. This is an ongoing, open position, filled every semester.

Hours are flexible (requirement of at least 20 hours per week). This is a part-time paid internship.

Walk for PKD Intern (Part-Time, Non-Exempt)

Hours: 20-30 hours per week – flexible schedule between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (June 1, 2015 – Nov. 30, 2015)

Supervisor: Director of Chapter Services

Start Date: June 1, 2015

Provide support for the PKD Foundation's Walk for PKD fundraising initiative. This program is the Foundation's signature fundraising event and is comprised of 50 Walks held throughout the country this fall and led by volunteer coordinators.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide phone and email support to participants on using the peer-to-peer fundraising database system.
  • Prepare and ship day-of-event materials to 50 Walk sites.
  • Possess technology skills to quickly learn TeamRaiser fundraising database platform and generate reports for use at 50 Walks across the country.
  • Assist local volunteers across the country by email and phone with individual Walk needs.
  • Assist with updating web pages.
  • Assist with processing mail.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to external and internal constituents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
