Raise your voice for PKD during Congress’s April recess

As Kidney Month starts winding down, keep up the momentum by raising your voice for PKD! Both the House and Senate will leave Washington, D.C. from April 15-26, 2019, and many will be back in their hometowns. Except for the Passover/Easter weekend (April 19-22), many Representatives and Senators should be holding town halls and/or office hours for constituent meetings.

This April recess gives PKD advocates an excellent opportunity to meet with their elected representatives and encourage support for PKDF’s 2019 legislative priorities:

  • $20 million to create a Polycystic Kidney Disease Research Program (PKDRP)/Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) at the Department of Defense (DOD) (House Members only)
  • Maintain PKD’s place on DOD PRMRP list (Senators only)
  • $2.5 billion increase in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding above the $39.1 billion in FY19
  • $2.165 billion for National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) in FY20

Whether you’re a seasoned advocate or gearing up for your first meeting, we’ve got you covered. For tips on how to schedule a meeting with your elected representative, how to prepare for your meeting and how to follow up after, visit our advocacy webpage.

We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity to make your voice heard. Your story has the power to make change!
