It may have been a cold and rainy Saturday, but not even the weather conditions could deter the passion and commitment of our Oklahoma Walk for PKD participants! The Walk was held at beautiful Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City, with a one-mile course for walkers to enjoy.
Oklahoma Chapter Walk Coordinator Steve Holekamp and Chapter Coordinator Kim Holekamp, led the event. They were lent a helping hand by Wyatt and Austin Holekamp, who assisted with registration and cheering on the walkers. Steve thanked the group present for supporting the Walk and reminded us of the importance of being an organ donor, which is incredibly significant for our community!
Minutes before the Walk began, a school bus arrived with the Tecumseh High School volleyball team, who were there to support one of their teammates who has PKD. They were wearing special t-shirts emblazoned with their team name. It was so encouraging to see the entire team showing up and supporting their friend.
In addition to our two-legged walkers, we also had a few four-legged walkers joining in the fun! All the walkers enjoyed having these special friends support the cause.
A special thanks to Eileen’s Cookies of Oklahoma City for donating delicious cookies for the Walk!
The Oklahoma team is already making plans for upcoming PKD events, as well as beginning to prepare for the 2019 Walk!
